Boston Sunday Globe: "Senior"
moments
Over-55 athletes play with heart, grit, aches

If you want to watch Atlantic League teams play double-headers
on Tuesday mornings, look for American Legion Post 18 across
the street, the one with the ancient tank named Delores out
front and a sign beneath the American Legion board that reads
"Grapes of Wrath Landscaping."

"WINNING GESTURE"
Coming home from the store one morning, I stopped for a procession
leaving the local funeral home. As the cars went by, they
passed the
softball field, where some older men were playing. The game
stopped, and
the men turned toward the hearse, removed their caps, and
covered their
hearts. One of the umpires stopped traffic at the cross street
so the
cortege could remain together. The players stayed that way
until the
proccesion had passed. I had a tear in my eye.
