Replays Win National Division Playoffs > > >
In an epic struggle between two National Division titans
(OK, so it was just 3 softball games), the Replays defeated
the Mudhens to win the Division title. The Replays went ahead
5-0 in their first at-bat, but the Mudhens fought back to
a 6-6 tie after 3 innings. The Replays then built a 14-8 lead
in game 1, but the Mudhens capitalized on a series of fielding
errors and finished with an exciting 15-14 victory.
The Mudhens maintained their momentum at the beginning of
game 2, going ahead 5-0 after just 1 ½ innings. However,
at that point the Replays began a comeback that culminated
with a dramatic triple in the bottom of the seventh to tie
the game and a walk-off bases-loaded hit in the bottom of
the eighth for an impressive 6-5 victory, tying the series
at one game apiece.
In the third game, the Replays exploded offensively to go
ahead 14-0 after 3 ½ innings. Combining that performance
with dazzling pitching and fielding, the Mudhens never recovered,
and in fact did not even score. After playing two intense
one-run games, the 14-0 margin was quite unexpected.
Replays pitcher Jimmy Wong ended the day with a string of
13 consecutive shutout innings. Dave Wainwright and Art Priver
(the Replays assistant manager and manager) combined to reach
base safely 19 times in 22 plate appearances.
